Opportunities for national industry 2025.
In a high-impact diplomatic mission held in New Delhi, led by Vice President
Geraldo Alckmin and by officials from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Trade (MDIC),
Brazil announces a set of initiatives that are expected to redefine bilateral relations with India, especially in foreign trade, energy and industrial integration.
The main highlight is the substantial expansion of the tariff preference agreement between the two countries,
the launch of a special electronic business visa and the announcement of the supply of millions of barrels of Brazilian oil to India.
The context for these actions is the rapid growth of trade between Brazil and India.
Trade volume, which was US$ 12 billion in the previous year, is expected to reach US$ 15 billion in 2025, and is projected to quickly reach
the US$ 20 billion mark in the coming years.
Vice President Alckmin emphasized the speed of this growth, noting that Indian exports to Brazil grew by more than
30% in just one year, which should set precedents for Brazilian products to receive preferentially favorable tariff treatment in the future expanded agreement.
The central agenda of the bilateral meetings, which were also attended by India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, was the expansion
of the Mercosur-India tariff preference agreement.
This agreement, which currently covers about 450 tariff lines, is expected to include even more product categories, allowing companies ranging from
technology and food, through industrial equipment manufacturers, to service and consulting providers to
trade with fewer taxes and barriers.
According to Alckmin, this new tariff level is a practical response to the demand of Brazilian business leaders
interested in diversifying export markets toward Asia and becoming more competitive against other international players.
“Trade between Brazil and India is growing.
Last year it was 12 billion dollars.
This year it may reach 15 billion dollars.
India's exports to Brazil are growing more than 30% this year
and we could quickly reach 20 billion dollars”
Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President and Minister
of Development, Industry, Trade and Services
The goal is to deepen and expand these lines, give preference in sales and make life even easier for those who wish to
export to India”, said the Vice President, highlighting the prospect of a more dynamic and innovative business environment.
Another innovative point announced was the implementation of the electronic business visa. Now, Brazilian business people,
engineers, technicians, consultants and startup representatives will face less red tape to enter
India for work, with the digital process handled through the embassy in New Delhi and the consulate in Mumbai.
This should facilitate not only trade missions and technical visits, but also open space for joint ventures,
technology transfer agreements and partnerships in a variety of areas, such as industrial automation,
health and renewable energy.
In the energy sector, the developments are equally significant.
Petrobras signed a contract to supply 6 million barrels of oil to India, consolidating
the country as a strategic partner in the international energy landscape. In addition, the opening of
18 offshore blocks for oil exploration in the Santos and Campos Basins was announced, encouraging the attraction of foreign
investment, process innovation and opportunities for national suppliers in areas such as maintenance and logistics.
The official mission also included initiatives in the health sector, such as agreements for vaccine production and the intensification
of the pharmaceutical partnership, sectors in which both Brazil and India have a global presence.
Brazil's Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, was in New Delhi to strengthen ties and encourage research and
technology transfer.
These announcements reflect a clear effort by the federal government to increase the competitiveness of national industry,
unlock logistics bottlenecks and ensure Brazilian companies a relevant role in international markets.
Business leaders from different sectors are already signaling optimism and preparing moves to take advantage of the trade opening,
the expansion of the tariff agreement and new possibilities in Asia.
