In September 2025, pre-salt production reached around 4.143 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, representing approximately 81% of national production.

This performance confirms the maturity of the Brazilian industry in ultra-deep waters, supported by projects of high technical complexity, strong technological content and consistent gains in operational efficiency.

Fields such as Tupi remain among the most productive in the country, consolidating Brazil as a strategic supplier to the international market and a benchmark in the development of large-scale offshore solutions.

Guyana, in turn, stands out as one of the most significant growth stories of the decade in the oil and gas sector. Supported by the discoveries in the Stabroek block and the start-up of successive floating production units, the country is already positioning itself as a leading player among the new global suppliers.

Projections indicate that installed capacity could approach 1.5 million barrels per day by the end of the decade, depending on project execution, regulatory stability and market conditions.

This progress repositions South America's northern Atlantic axis, increases the region's relevance in supply security and creates a competitive environment that demands qualified suppliers, robust technical solutions and specialized services aligned with the standards of the major operators.

Holding COP30 on Brazilian soil adds a political dimension to this scenario.

Brazil has advocated an energy transition considered fair and gradual, aligned with the reality of developing countries, in which part of the revenue generated by oil exploration can be directed to financing renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, innovation and the reduction of inequalities.

In this context, oil is no longer treated only as an antagonist of climate targets and is also seen as a potential source of funds to enable the transformation of the energy mix.

In practice, however, the share of fossil fuels in the global energy mix still hovers around 80%, showing that the challenge is structural and not merely rhetorical.

In the international market, the combined effect of expanding projects in South America and growing production in other countries outside Opep+ translates into prices under pressure in the short term.

At the start of the week of November 10, 2025, Brent was trading in the range of 63 to 64 dollars per barrel, while WTI was trading close to 60 dollars.

Projections point to a comfortable supply picture, with a possible surplus relative to demand if the main projects stay on their planned schedules.

Even so, volatility remains a permanent factor, influenced by geopolitical tensions, decisions to cut or increase production, economic sanctions, maritime logistics issues and revisions to economic growth.

The sense of abundance, however, should not be interpreted as a permanent guarantee. The concentration of large volumes in a few production hubs, the natural decline of mature fields and the slowdown in the pace of major discoveries in some regions raise doubts about the structural balance over longer horizons.

If reserve replacement does not keep pace with the gradual decline in productivity, the market may once again experience a tight environment, with a direct impact on prices, inflation and access to energy, especially in more vulnerable and import-dependent countries.

For the supply chain, this reinforces the need for strategic vision, diversification of sources, contract planning and careful selection of industrial partners.

Projections widely used by the sector indicate that global oil demand should peak in the early 2030s, at close to 107 million barrels per day, remaining at a high level throughout the 2030s and part of the 2040s before starting a gradual decline toward 2050.

During this period, South America is likely to maintain a central role as a reliable supplier, supported by large-scale projects in deep and ultra-deep waters, an evolving regulatory framework and the ability to attract significant investment in exploration and production.

The challenge becomes combining production expansion with stricter environmental, social and governance criteria, ensuring traceability, regulatory compliance and emissions reduction across the chain.

For operators, EPC contractors, industrial distributors, equipment manufacturers and technical service providers, the message is clear: the window of opportunity in the region is open, but it favors those who deliver technical consistency, competitiveness, responsiveness and genuine alignment with the standards required by the oil and gas industry.

In a scenario where South America takes on a leading energy role, building solid partnerships, ensuring supply quality and operating with a focus on reliability and responsibility is no longer a differentiator and becomes a basic requirement for taking part in the projects that will define the sector's next cycle.

Source

América do Sul consolida papel estratégico no fornecimento global de petróleo e gás Em meio aos debates da COP30 em Belém, a América do Sul se consolida como um dos principais polos estratégicos da oferta global de petróleo e gás.
